Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy is still, without a doubt, our favourite bard of the 21st century. Heartbreaking folk noir is and remains the trademark he's borne for the past 15 years. This Will Oldham has not only released records under his own name, or his most well-known alias Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, but also under the Palace banner (Palace Brothers, Palace Music, Palace Songs) or together with Matt Sweeney or Tortoise. This gigantic output inevitably contains inconsistencies but there are more than enough highlights, such as the albums ‘I See A Darkness’, ‘The Letting Go’ and last year's live CD release ‘Is It The Sea?’. Now in March the man will release his most ambitious work to date: ‘Beware’. Ambitious and grandiose, as no less than fourteen musicians worked with him on it. So we recognize the likes of jazz musician Rob Mazurek from Chicago on the list of guests. This time with a live band.
Norwegian Susanna (short for Susanna Wallumrod) shall accompany Oldham on the European tour. Her albums are released on the intriguing Norwegian label Rune Grammofon and maybe you know her from the duo Susanna and the Magical Orchestra, where she workes with ex-Jaga Jazzist and ex-Shining keyboard player Morten Qvenild. ‘Flower Of Evil’ is the name of her most recent album and it consists largely of stunning covers; an album on which Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy also collaborated.
