Bombino as a part of Brussels Jazz Marathon
Intense Desert Rock Jams - 100% Touareg & Free of Charge!
Bombino explodes! This Touareg from Agadez, in Niger, plays extremely intense guitar music. Something for those who also get a kick out of Ali Farka Touré, Tinariwen and other driving desert-blues rock or masters like Santana and Jimi Hendrix, of course.
Bombino, alias Omara Moctor, was born around 1980 and has now almost finished his third CD. Particularly his second CD 'Agadez' has since become a must-have (on the Cumbancha label.) At the same time there is also the Ron Wyman film of the same name, from which the brilliant local live-images below are taken.
This is the pulsing sound of the survivors of the Sahara and Sahel. Bombino combines that with a huge charisma, a sincere stage presence and a climax every time you blink.
Your humble AB servant encountered Bombino at Womex 2011 and couldn't shut up about it. But maybe you already saw Bombino shine on Jools (see below)?
Bombino, now finally in the AB on Sunday 27 May, at 5pm already and free of charge, entrance via the Steenstraat. This is a part of the Brussels Jazz Marathon.
Line up:
Omara "Bombino" Moctar (leading guitar and lead vocal) - Kawissan Mohamed (backing guitar and vocal) - Kildjate Moussa Albade (bass and vocal) - Ibrahim Emoud Atchinguil (drums, percussion and vocal)
