This show takes place as a part of Belgian Music Week, just like the Colt, Ronker, ONHA, Ghostwoman and Johannes Is Zijn Naam concerts.
Inspired by artists like Otis Sandsjö (Y-OTIS), International Anthem-act SML (Small Medium Large), ØKSE, the Icelandic quartet ADHD, Björk and Alabaster DePlume, bodies – lowercase please (!) – immediately impressed us. Lefto also fell for them and included the band on his Jazz Cats compilation series (literally) alongside the likes of Adja and Orson Claeys. Eminent London saxophonist Nubya Garcia had bodies open for her at AB and watched approvingly from the wings.
After two EPs and a handful of AB concerts, it’s time for the impressive debut – lowercase please (!) – quiero amor on Brussels label Igloo Records. The first single un violador en tu camino –intentionally released on November 25 to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – sets the tone right away: “rough saxophone melodies trigger distorted samples of protestors’ voices, layering street ambiences with synths, saxophone and effects, resulting in an amplification of their demands through a raw track that transforms rage into collective power.” To be clear: bodies’ music is anything but non-committal. #thankgoodness
Aside saxophonist Alejandra Borzyk (see too: Sound Of Brussels Orchestra with the likes of Kaito Winse and Vitja Pauwels), pianist Camille-Alban Spreng (see too: Mobilhome), drummer Elie Gouleme (see: STACE, amongst others) and bassist Mateusz Malcharek (see too: Marvie, amongst others) form the rest of the band. Ready for a musical uppercut?
