AB & KVS present 2-day residence with “one of the greatest songwriters alive”
AB and KVS join forces for a unique, two-day residence with Bill Callahan.
20u00 > Support: Jerry David DeCicca (US)
The opener will be Texan songwriter Jerry David DeCicca. He is also the producer of outsider songwriters like Ed Askew (Tin Angel), Chris Gantry (Drag City) and Will Beeley (Tompkins Square) and – because he insists that it be mentioned - “he lives in the rural town of Bulverde, TX with his two dogs, three cats, five toads, and wife”.
21u00 > Bill Callahan - solo residences (US)
Y-E-S! “One of the greatest songwriters alive”, according to The Washington Post, is coming to Brussels again! Alongside Paris (Café De La Danse), London (the prestigious Institute of Contemporary Arts) and Dublin (The Button Factory), Bill Callahan also lands at KVS. Callahan – who always stubbornly charts his own course – decided to head over to Europe this fall and only drops by four European capitals. On the menu: a multi-day residency each time, where Callahan is accompanied only by his guitar and wonderful baritone voice.
His pure, understated songwriting skills still gets under the skin even after all these years. Just think of classics like Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle (2009) or Apocalypse (2011). In recent years he seems to have been more productive than ever, with quality albums like Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest (2019), Gold Record (2020) and YTILAER (2022). The latter was one again – and rightly – heaped with rave reviews.
“The one-time misanthrope returns with beautifully understated reflections on dreams, death and the human condition” and “an endlessly fascinating journey”, wrote The Guardian, which also gave the album four stars. Mojo gave the album five stars and wrote: “As a songwriter he’s giving it all he’s got, with philanthropic zeal turning on the idiosyncratic charm and capturing hearts all over again”.
