Humble songwriter craftsmanship that gets under your skin
Bill Callahan – once, in an other life, in AB (’00) with his band Smog – would seem to have found his own rhythm. So, on average, there's a new Callahan album released every two years with only one common denominator: pure humble songwriter craftsmanship that gets under your skin. Just think of albums like ‘Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle’ (’09), ‘Apocalypse’ (’11) and the current, brand new ‘Dream River’.
A preview of the album appeared in the form of a dub version of two songs from his latest litter. That, while ‘Dream River’ is far from a dub album. Basically: dry humor in Bill Callahan style. An advance press release described the album as "easily the most sensual and soulful of Callahan's career”. We can certainly agree with that.
