Masterful Belgian rapper of Congolese origin presents true triptych
Baloji is a brilliant Belgian rapper of Congolese origin who has already worked with Damon Albarn’s Africa Express and many others. His previous album 137 Avenue Kaniama – named after the address in Lubumbashi where Baloji saw the mother he thought lost again – already dates from 2018. Anno 2023, Baloji has totally returned – and in no small way!
AUGURE is the moniker of his challenging project that takes on three marvellous forms. First of all, AUGURE is Baloji’s debut as a director. He immediately landed in the official selection for the Cannes Film Festival 2023 with it, for the prize in the category ‘Un Certain Regard’. Associated with that, AUGURE is also a monumental album, composed of 4 EPs containing a total of 36 songs, written from the points of view of the four main characters in the film.
To top it all off, AUGURE is also a full-scale exhibition that will take place this autumn in the prestigious MOMU (Fashion Museum) in Antwerp. That finale makes AUGURE Baloji’s ultimate triptych.
