Blixa Bargeld does it Italian-style.
Autumn Falls
Autumn Falls is taking over clubs in Brussels again for a fourth edition in 2013. Numerous sold-out shows by Low, Pinback, SX, Beach House, Ty Segall, WHY?, Metronomy, Ălafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm among others, made for memorable previous editions. This year moreover, the indoor city festival will not be limited to just one week, but it will extend over a longer period, from late November until the first week of December. The aim is, as always, to present a first-rate line-up with an eye for both audience favourites and exciting new discoveries.

21u00 - 22u30 Teho Teardo & Blixa Bargeld
The collaboration between Italian composer Teho Teardo and Blixa Bargeld (EinstĂŒrzende Neubauten, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds) started during the realisation of Ingiuria, a theatre piece. A song written for a soundtrack called âA Quite Lifeâ followed, after which they started working on an entire album together, recording between Berlin and Rome. The result, âStill Lifeâ is a thrilling collection of songs and experimental pieces and well on its way to becoming one of the most striking releases of 2013. Strings are lifted out of their classical context and Bargeldâs voice is as moving in English as it is in German and Italian. They will be accompanied on the cello for this unique concert at the AB, which is their only appearance in the Benelux. The weather prediction is cloudy with a strong chance of goosebumps!
19u30 - 20u30 Esmerine
Esmerine was co-founded in early 2000s by percussionist Bruce Cawdron (Godpseed You! Black Emperor) and cellist Rebecca Foon (Thee Silver Mt. Zion, Saltland). Their albums have one foot in the new music/experimental terrain of contemporaries like Rachel's or Town And Country and the other in a more visceral and lyrical landscape populated by the likes of Dirty Three (and GY!BE themselves).
An artist residency and recording session in Istanbul at the end of 2012 with four local Turkish musicians yielded the bulk of the bed tracks for Esmerine's fourth album, Dalmak (2013), which the group completed in winter 2012-2013.
18u15-19u00 DAAU
DAAU came about in the early nineties as a part of the fertile Antwerp scene which has also generated the likes of dEUS and Zita Swoon. Brothers Simon and Buni Lenski (on cello and violin respectively), Han Stubbe (on clarinet) and Roel Van Camp (on accordeon), all classically trained, were still in their teens then, but with their predominantly acoustic music they immediately stumbled upon a sound of their own. They played their instruments with a rock attitude and a gypsy spirit, and from the word go improvisation became essential for their method of composing.
The band is releasing âEight Definitionsâ this year, their seventh album. Since their last record, DAAUâs line-up has gone through some changes again: currently DAAU consists of Han Stubbe (clarinet), Roel Van Camp (accordeon) and Hannes dâHoine (double bass), but in concert the trio will be supplemented by drummer Jeroen Stevens.
17u15-18u00 CHANTAL ACDA
Chantal Acda has worked under the Sleepingdog moniker since 2006, making three affectionately received albums. At the same time, she was a constant on-stage presence with Isbells, but after all this, it was time for her first real solo record: âLet Your Hands Be My Guideâ (Gizeh, 2013).
She sought out kindred spirits with whom she might record an album filled with freedom and intensity. She found this rapport with German pianist Nils Frahm, multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick, whom we know from his own work and from his work with, among others, Efterklang, cellist extraordinaire Gyda Valtysdottir (MĂșm) and Shahzad Ismaily. What began as a journey ended as a wonderful record - one wherein the five musicians were able to find their place and, together, and with great warmth, tell their nine-song story.
