Under the title "Pointing the way to new music" AB and the eleven music clubs of the Club Circuit get together this concert season for an exciting series. Together they've selected 10 weekends when on each occasion another club will occupy the AB, while at the very same time the AB goes on location to that visiting club. With this project AB and the Club Circuit want to place some extra emphasis on their good relations.
We are now able to announce first concert for the exchange between AB and Nijdrop in Opwijk:
Anti-Pop Consortium was established in the autumn of '97 at a poetry slam in New York. 3 extremely striking voices (supported by producer EARL BLAIZE) BEANS, HIGH PRIEST and M. SAYYID made this company unique. Like Sun Ra and Ornette Coleman if they had been rappers. Their unique voices are often compared with those other hip-hop outsiders: Kool Keith, MF Doom and Aesop Rock. The foursome released various tape singles (on their very own Antipop Recordings), a quasi unfindable Japanese release ('Shopping Carts Crashing') and an album on the experimental hip-hop label 75 Ark (once from Dan The Automator). The breakthrough came with their masterpiece 'Arrhythmia', released by the still prominent Warp label (see too: Prefuse 73, Pivot, Boards Of Canada). Their experimental electronic productions and unorthodox lyrics also appealed to Radiohead, who towed them along on their 'Amnesiac' tour in 2001. DJ Shadow did the same. Anti-pop split in 2002 and each followed their own way solo. BEANS (aka MR. Ballbeam) released two further albums on Warp and experimented extensively with William Parker on the jazz label Thirsty Ear. His most recent (only downloadable) album 'Thorns' was released on his own label Adored and Exploited. He's already collaborated with diverse people like Funkstörung, Arto Lindsey and the Canadians from Holy Fuck. Priest and M. Sayyid formed AIRBORN AUDIO and toured with Bright Eyes and The Faint. They've been back together and touring again for a year now and are back in Belgium again, following their fantastic visit to Domino 08. Don't miss them!
Zucchini Drive is the collaboration between Swede Marcus Graap (Stacs Of Stamina) and Kortrijkian Tom De Geeter (Cavemen Speaks). They worked together previously as The World after 4/02 and Gunporn. With Zucchini Drive the duo opts for subtle electronica and pop-sensitive melodies but then with an avant-hop aftertaste. For this project Tom & Marcus could count on the assistance of an impressive list of producers and guest musicians, including the likes of: Styrofoam, B. Fleischmann of the Morr Music label, AnticonŽs finest Alias, the unrivalled Markus Acher (The Notwist) and sharp MC-duo Grand Buffet.
