Third time lucky! The impressive Animal Collective first performed on an AB stage (then still young as support act to Iceland's Múm) in '04 and in '05 on their own two feet for a more or less sold-out ABClub. With their (breakthrough?) record 'Merriwheather Post Pavillion' - the ninth now - the next step, to an ABBox, is thus only logical. Breakthrough? Indeed, New York's Animal Collective has already been around for ten years but it is their latest feat that is undoubtedly their most accessible release. It is still governed by weird folk, avant garde and psychedelica but this is, more than ever, laced with (or driven by?) heavenly melodies in which The Beach Boys never seem far removed. You love Mercury Rev and Flaming Lips? Then Animal Collective could well be your new love. Once you've fallen for this group of beasts (with semi-permanent members like Avey Tare, Panda Bear, Deakin and Geologist): take a dive into the catalogue of the Paw Tracks label that they run. An even weirder trip is assured!
Support act will be Pantha Du Prince or rather the alter-ego of German Hendrik Weber. In the past this minimal techno fanatic has already mixed Animal Collective and also Depeche Mode. His MySpace-friends also work to his advantage as each and every one is an AB-favourite, such as Svarte Greiner, Burial and Autechre. Kindamuzik described his most recent album 'This Bliss' (released via Dial) as "... fields of rustling beats, hills alive with ecstatic arrangements, caves with small structural surprises, forests loaded with melodies and bursting oceans of full, warm-blooded oscillators. The album caresses, comforts, warms, amazes and intrigues, without losing sight of the the danceable aspect.". There you go.
