The Turkish-Dutch band Altın Gün mixes Turkish folk and disco-pop with gritty psychedelica, funk and rock to form a very danceable and upbeat whole. The six are inspired by traditional Turkish music and musicians like Selda Bağcan, Barış Manço and Erkin Koray, whereby they, just like their great idols, experiment with the blending of different musical worlds. That’s how Altın Gün succeeds in holding on to the Turkish sound of the ‘70s and at the same time make is sound entirely, unrecognizably fresh with fuzzy bass, raw saz-riffs and a bit of organ now and then. In 2019, the band’s success reached new heights: their second album ‘Gece’ was very well received and they managed to pocket a Grammy-nomination. So expectations for the up-coming new album ‘Yol’ are all the higher.
