All Connected

All Connected is a new series in Huis23 that will feature - over 6 evenings, between October 2013 and June 2014 - concerts, films, readings and instrument presentations with and about artists who play with the language of ‘voltage control’. Artists who use the ‘modular’ as creative thinking process and who explore musical boundaries in doing so. Artists who work in the spirit of the San Francisco Tape Music Centre, a collective that came into being when pioneers like Terry Riley, Morton Subotnick, Steve Reich, Ramon Sender, Pauline Oliveros, and many others connected their oscillators and tape recorders together to produce the most progressive music of that period.

The series is curated by Floris Vanhoof. A musician, filmmaker and creative technician who has been doing exactly what he wants, in his very own way, for many years now: mainly making albums and giving shows with a self-made synth.

live: Daniël De Wereldvermaarde Botanicus

Daniël has been presenting De Gebraden Zwaan Zingt on Radio Centraal for more than 25 years now and has already released various albums Ultra Eczema, as Cassis Cornuta and Space Cactus. He has an extensive collection of synths from the Korg MS series, that he does the most surprising things with, and also collects hats and cactuses.
In Huis23 Daniël will play a set with a configuration consisting of the semi-modulaire Korg MS50, MS20, MS10 and a SQ-10, and all this made complete by the well-known Roland TB-303. So you can expect the most interesting sounds from a number of synths that have helped to define modern electronic music.

screening: Makino Takashi: ‘RECORDER

The Japanese Takashi (°1972) started making films in 2007, after graduating from the Nihon University College of Art. He moved to London in order to pursue further studies under the Quay brothers. He met Jim O’Rourke in 2005, which caused his career gain momentum. He has won various prizes, travelled the world with projections of his films, and is now a big name in the world of experimental film.
During All Connected, he will come show, and briefly introduce, his film Recorder from 2011.
