Jack White is already a fan of this garage soul band.
Jack White is a fan. Proof? Alabama Shakes provided the first single in the ‘Live 7” Series’ on Third Man Records, Mr. White's own label. Not surprising, as their sound could be described as extra bold, southern garage soul. Just Jack’s thing. Their fully-fledged debut ‘Boys & Girls’ will only be released in April (via Rough Trade) but the buzz around Alabama Shakes is already huge. NME described them as ‘one of the 100 New Bands You Have To Hear at the start of 2012’.
What else should you know? That Alabama Shakes hail from – how did you guess – Alabama (US) and that Brittany Howard is their impressive black front-lady.
What else should you do? Surf to their bandcamp page right away to hear the debut EP (that has now sold out)…
Oh, and realise that this band is going to be big.
Support-act for the sold-out Alabama Shakes concert will be Belgian band The Belbouchos. This five-member roots-rock formation shares a bass-player with Isbells and its influences give a nod to Lightnin' Hopkins, Black Keys, Etta James, Link Wray, Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, Led Zeppelin, Elvis Presley, Little Walter, Wilco, 16 Horsepower, Calexico and Los Lobos.
