The son of Leonard Cohen, with a new CD and with 'parental approval'.
The son of Leonard Cohen (and Suzanne Elrod.) This may be emphasised, as Adam Cohen now seems to be completely ready to continue his father's extremely fine legacy.
Born in 1972 in Montreal, Canada, but raised all over the world in a clearly musical environment in which he learned to play drums, guitar and piano (but was also willing to work as roadie – and managed to survive a very serious accident while doing so.)
He had an untitled debut CD out in 1998, adorned by the likes of 'Cry Ophelia', and had the poignant 'Lullaby In Blue' that Bette Midler so definitely wanted to record. In the meantime there was also the French CD 'Melancolista' and he toured in-full with rock band Low Millions (see too: their CD 'Ex-Girlfriends'.)
Even performing 'Take This Waltz' sincerely and in Spanish didn't seem to present any problems, or not any more at least. As, if there was already always lyrical accompaniment by his father, then on the new CD 'Like A Man' (via V2) it sounds like son Adam Cohen is now finally entirely at peace with that unavoidable influence.
He says the following himself, on his fresh website: ‘Like A Man is steeped in my recognizing that I am in the family business. Despite my efforts to carve out a different identity, really I belong to a long line of people who have embraced their father’s business. And to have my father pronounce that I have world-class love songs on my record — Like A Man and What Other Guy — is a deeply gratifying compliment.’
Cohen & Son, a trusted poetic pedigree.
