Arkansas coffin carriers breath new life into doom metal!
“Pallbearer arguably became this year’s Deafheaven” is what Metalhammer wrote of the doom quartet from Little Rock, Arkansas. Just like Deafheaven, they transcend the boundaries of their genre on second monster LP ‘Foundations Of Burden’ - with detours through psychedelica, '70s prog rock and ambient. Just like debut ‘Sorrow & Extinction’, from 2012, Pallbearer’s second effort adorned the top of every metal year-end ranking and they were awarded ‘Best New Music’ again by Pitchfork’s metal-guru Brandon Stosuy.
The cohesion between the heavy, harmonious guitar riffs and the cast-iron rhythm section is the work of producer Billy Anderson (Sleep, Melvins, Jawbreaker) and that whole, bathed in an obligatory apocalyptic doom vibe, serves as leaden cornerstone for the masterful vocals of Brett Campbell - who sounds like the bastard son of Ozzy Osbourne and Geddy Lee from Rush.
