Acoustic songs & simplicity that really gets under your skin
AB Sessions?
The AB Sessions. Or for those who prefer to see their abbreviations written in longhand: the Acoustic Backstage Sessions. Let's just say: unique acoustic sessions by artists close to the AB's heart. Sessions so refined that they touch your heart and soul. About 250 artists have already revealed their intimate musical side, since the first AB Session became a fact in September ’08.
That has often produced unique sessions. Many international artists have passed in revue. From Rodrigo Y Gabriella to Calexico. From Jamie Woon to Mercury Prize winner Alt-J. From Smith & Burrows to José James.
But pretty much every Belgian has passed in revue too. From Arno to Kommil Foo. From Admiral Freebee to SX. From Triggerfinger to Sarah Bettens. From The Van Jets to Intergalactic Lovers.
AB Sessions Live?
To highlight that impressive result (250 sessions over 4 concert seasons), AB has started a new, annually recurring series: AB Sessions Live. Doing so almost a quarter century after the commencement of the famous MTV Unplugged sessions. The acts play a complete set this time instead of 1 song.
The programme?
An impressive headliner that is rarely to be seen at work solo and especially upcoming talent that AB very strongly believes in, and that will play in the major league in the foreseeable future.
Stef Kamil Carlens (Zita Swoon Group)
Couldn't be lacking. Stef Kamil Carlens signed for the very first AB Session ever, in ’08, with ‘I And I’ by Bob Dylan. This is one of his rare solo performances.
Love Like Birds
Couldn't be lacking: Together with Oscar And The Wolf, Love Like Birds signed up for the first AB Session to be officially released, on coloured vinyl and in 7” format too. The fragile and dreamy voice of Elke De Mey recalls the voice of Karen Dalton, Emiliana Torrini and CocoRosie. Perfect for those dark days.
Oscar And The Wolf
Couldn't be lacking: Together with Love Like Birds, Oscar And The Wolf signed up for the first AB Session to be officially released, on coloured vinyl and in 7” format too. The spirit of Bon Iver and Isbells is certainly in the air on their debut ‘Summer Skin’.
Imaginary Family
Their single ‘The Bird Watcher’ appeared out of nowhere earlier this year and was immediately picked up by Radio 1 and StuBru. Behind this made-up family you will find singer Joanna Isselé, whose remarkable voice reminds us of the vibe of Marissa Nadler and First Aid Kit.
