Futuristic Latin grooves love minimal techno
Matias Aguayo is a DJ, producer, record label boss and – increasingly – a vocalist on his own tracks. Born in Chile and having grown up in (the clubbing circuit of) Germany, this adventurous minimalist was dubbed by Pitchfork ‘the man who helped popularise and expand minimal’. In his sets and with his own label Cómeme he builds loving bridges between artists across the world, from Cologne to Johannesburg and from Bucharest to Helsinki. With his latest album Support Alien Invasion he again joins quasi-abstract techno with steamy party vibes, a combination that invokes the spirit of Latin-American carnaval music. His hypermodern interpretation of Maloya grooves in particular, typical of the island of Réunion, will make the hearts of even the most aloof techno connoisseurs skip a beat.

‘The Chilean-German producer’s steely, slinky polyrhythms are a repudiation of borders and a celebration of the freedom of movement.’ - Pitchfork‘Support Alien Invasion, Aguayo’s fourth official studio album, continues his legacy of mind-blowing musical breadth — big beats and body-shaking polyrhythms sit at the median of his Chilean-German heritage.’ – FACT
