A wonderfully Dutch LSD-trip full of psychedelic afrobeat!
In order to emphasise our good neighbourly (musical) relations, the Flemish Cultural Houses AB and Beursschouwburg will begin working together on a structural basis as of September ’13. The two houses have already collaborated occasionally in the past, remember the co-production for the Æthenor concert (the band encompassing Sunn O)))’s Stephen O’ Malley) or for the latest edition of Brussel Feest whereby Tommigun provided the soundtrack for Marc Didden’s film classic ‘Brussels By Night’.
But now, as of September, these occasional collaborations become structurally embedded. Both houses will organise, more or less monthly, a concert in the Beursschouwburg promoted by both and focusing on exciting and adventurous music. All with only one goal in mind: further enriching Brussels' cultural and musical landscape.

JUNGLE BY NIGHT
A nine-member gang from Amsterdam that wisely skipped the pubescent music phase and went straight for the good stuff as musical inspiration: afrobeat, jazz, funk & soul and dub by grandmasters like Fela Kuti, The Budos band and Mulatu Astatke. Their first two albums, the self-titled ‘Jungle By Night’ and ‘Hidden’, brought them to international festivals like Sziget, Istanbul Jazz and Lowlands, and they were also able to appear as warmer-upper for the likes of Mayer Hawthorne, The Roots ft. John Legend and their musical hero Mulatu Astatke.
These young men fill the De Melkweg and Paradiso (where they appeared on stage during the Fela Kuti Tribute evening with Seun Kuti) with our northern neighbours and none less than The Gaslamp Killer sat behind the dials for the recording of their latest release, 7” ‘Brass Sabbath’.
Their third issue ‘The Hunt’ lies ready and waiting to be shipped, and at Groningen's showcase-festival Eurosonic ‘14 the new songs certainly sounded “agressiever, doelgerichter en gewaagder” according to music website 3voor12. The vibe is darker, the musical spectrum was extended to dance and psychedelica, and the sound is mature and diverse! “Jungle By Night zijn geen kuikentjes meer. De donsveertjes maken plaats voor een verendek met een kleurenpracht die je zou associëren met een dikke lsd-trip. De jongens hebben er duidelijk voor gekozen om uit hun comfort zone te stappen en dat is een gewaagde stap die ze geen windeieren zal leggen.”
