Charming electro-pop from the heart of Manchester.
A LATE NIGHT SHOW WITH... EGYPTIAN HIP HOP
“‘Good Don’t Sleep’ is as on-point as possible to the sound of 2012: the psychedelic experiments of The Horrors and Tame Impala melted into the Zelda-worshipping sound of Rustie’s ‘Glass Swords’.”

What's the link between Hudson Mohawke, Charlotte Gainsbourg and New-Zealand's Connan Mockasin? Tik. Tik. Tik. Time's up! The answer is: Egyptian Hip Hop. This electro-pop quartet from Manchester debuted in ’10 with the fickle EP ‘Some Reptiles Grew Wings’, despite the fact it passed through the magical hands of producer Hudson Mohawke (now ½ of TNGHT). In the follow-on from their debut-EP singer/frontman Alex Hewitt toured – the answer is almost there - as a band member of, that's right, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Connan Mockasin.
Enter ’12: ‘Good Don’t Sleep’, Egyptian Hip Hop's debut album sees the light of day on Belgium's R&S, which has been making a serious comeback in recent years (since its heyday in the late ‘80's/early ’90's). The foreign press went for it right away: “At times they evoke the lush beauty of Cocteau Twins.” writes The Guardian and Pitchfork used the letters of the alphabet to form the following sentence: “Egyptian Hip Hop sound weird, otherworldly, and exciting.”. We're certainly dying of curiosity to see their live set in the intimate AB Club.
