FREE MUSIC FESTIVAL. RECOMMENDED FOR FAIRY-TALE LOVERS WITH FINE TASTE

Warande Park Brussels
MON 25/8 until FRI 29/8 Each evening from 8:00 pm
Info: 02/548.24.24 of www.feeerieen.be

Because the word ‘quinquennium’ sounds so strange, we won’t use it right away. But: it’s certainly worth mentioning already that the Feeërieën are onto their fifth edition. Good reason for a great celebration? On the contrary! It’s precisely that tangible, small scale and intimate enjoyment of not immediately well-known but impressive performers that makes the Feeërieën so simply unique. So there’ll certainly be no round of Feeërieën ‘big-bigger-biggest’.

We could never capture the spirit of the Feeërieën more finely in words than De Standaard that once did: “Once a year the Warande Park in Brussels transforms into a fairy-tale forest where weird and wonderful music resounds. All that between trees strewn with colourful lights. The musicians who play here, for an as still as a mouse, usually seated, audience, are masters of melancholy. Sometimes they’re subdued singer-songwriters singing about love, other times the bitter-sweet sounds of electronica wizards strengthen the magic with feather-light beats. All that under a thick leafy ceiling on a bandstand that bathes in misty blue lights. A fata morgana such as you have never seen.”

The programme for ’08 looks a lot more international than previous ones. With performers who have left their homelands just to come over from Iceland, America, Sweden, Denmark and The Netherlands. Musicians that serve from just as many musical vats too: from electronica, folk, jazz, cabaret, songwriters, strings, classical to klezmer. You certainly don’t have a good reason not to drop by. The natural surroundings are the backdrop. We provide the soundtrack. Enjoy is the message
