Jack White is a fan. Proof? Alabama Shakes issued their first single in the ‘Live 7” Series’ on Third Man Records, Mr. White's label. Not so surprising really, as their sound can still be best described as succulent southern garage-soul. Just Jack’s thing. Their fully-fledged debut ‘Boys & Girls’ was released earlier this year but, even before it was in stores, there was such a buzz about it that almost all of their European tour was sold out in advance.
Alabama Shakes - who hail from, how did you guess, Alabama – didn't disappoint. De Morgen: “American foursome Alabama Shakes abducted you from Brussels' AB Club with their rock-'n-soul and took you forty years back in time. At the same time their sound sounded vitally relevant.“ Also: “Alabama Shakes guarantees the tastiest sort of retro in ages.” Plus: “Finally, a female singer with balls.”To miss them would be to miss out.
