wonderful fuzz-rock with classic rock angle
The Chantal Acda concert on the same evening is free of charge for Kurt Vile concertgoers. More info here.
KURT VILE & THE VIOLATORS (us)
Kurt Vile was once the co-founder of The War On Drugs, but already left the band when their debut was released in ’08. Vile has released five albums upon the world since then, of which it was ‘Wakin’ On A Pretty Daze’ from ’13 that provided a broad breakthrough. Humo described his sound aptly as ‘a fresh mixture of sleepy folk jams, classic singer-songwriter pop and robust fuzz-rock’.
Vile's new album will be released this autumn, with producer Rob Schnapf behind the dials (see: the likes of Beck's ‘Mellow Gold’ and also Elliott Smith's ‘Either/Or’. ‘It's definitely got that night vibe...’ Kurt Vile told Rolling Stone's ‘… it's my sequel to Donald Fagen's The Nightfly.’ We have taken note.
Live, Kurt Vile is again accompanied by his inseparable backing band The Violators.
LOWER DENS (us)
Behind Lower Dens you will still find front lady Jana Hunter. Once tipped as a fragile folkie by Devendra Banhart, who released her debut in ’10 on his very own Gnononsong label. She now stands squarely on her own two feet and in ’12 she actually headed in the direction of new wave with her album ‘Nootropics’. There are certainly many ‘80ties echoes resounding on her latest album ‘Escape From Evil’. Pitchfork – that praised the album with a sure 8.3 score – even hears Billy Idol and Bonnie Tyler sounds in it. Live, Lower Dens certainly sounds just as tight as it does convincing.
Due to health issues, Waxahatchee unfortunately has to cancel her tour with Kurt Vile.
Waxahatchee: ‘I've been having some health issues that are affecting my voice and have been put on strict and immediate vocal rest. I hate canceling shows and I'm hoping to make it up to everyone soon.’ She will be replaced by Brooklyn duo Lushes.
LUSHES
Lushes are a two-piece rock band from Brooklyn, New York. Their second GREAT album ‘Service Industry' (out now), was recorded and mixed by Aaron Mullan (Magik Markers, Sonic Youth) at Echo Canyon, with additional production from Jonathan Schenke (Parquet Courts, Eaters).
STADT
The opener this evening comes from Ghent: STADT. Or, the musical concoction of two passionate brothers from Ghent: Simon & Frederik Segers. Their music can be best described as krautpop. Prominent member: Fulco Ottervanger, who we also know from innovative jazz band Beren Gieren.
