They’re rare, those moments in which you’re sent head over heels by an unknown band on a cold winter’s night in a backroom of an obscure café. It was Eurosonic 2015, in Groningen, and the band was called Die Nerven. The German trio tensely and scathingly shot their nihilism-laced post-punk through the dilapidated speakers and unhesitatingly spat the sinister German lyrics straight in your face.
Their recent release ‘Out’ (Glitterhouse Records – Oct ’15), hailed by weekly Der Spiegel as “one of the best and most relevant German-speaking albums of this decade”, is fizzing with as much energy, attitude and oppressive songs as forerunner ‘Fun’. In short, urgent post-punk/noise-rock from Stuttgart that really gets under your skin live.
